Iron Sky

Written by MentalFish. Posted in 3D Graphics

I must say its quite entertaining to see my name on a movie production like Iron Sky :) Thanks to Kelly, Alex and Luke for letting me play and helping out in getting some automagic LScripts going. Now, how to get some LightWave going for the next Star Trek movie… Mr J.J. sirr, need some VFX assistance or what about you Mr Lucas, any live action TV series about to be made? :)

In any case, now I need to get on with my own space ship projects. Where do I go to order more time in a day?

Edit: It seems to be doing well at the Berlin film festival:

LScript Appeal

Written by MentalFish. Posted in 3D Graphics

To any and all LightWave scripters out in the interwibble.

There is quite a few LScripts in circulation, some are very focused and task oriented while others are quite wide in scope. These tools can sometimes become a vital part of someone’s pipeline and if we as creators of LScripts become less invested in it, both in time and effort, people using it may end up suffering from unfixed bugs and scripts not working at all.

I would urge all developers of free LScripts to release them as uncompiled .ls sources, so that the scripts can be maintained and stay alive even after the creator of them has stopped caring or been hit by a truck.

Polygon Islands 2.0

Written by MentalFish. Posted in Computer Graphics

Just in time for SIGGRAPH, we are happy to announce that Polygon Islands v2.0 is out and available for purchase. Alexandre Labedade ( aka Alexx ) have created a new version of this tool, and it has so many improvements it became a 2.0 release.

It is faster and got more features than the first version:

  • Added taper and bend tool
  • User definable deformation center (“pivot”)
  • Preview of single islands when deforming
  • Creation of morphs based on current deformation
  • Creation of weight maps

LightWiki LScript reference

Written by MentalFish. Posted in Computer Graphics

I have been adding (leeching from Mike Green :D ) some LScript documentation to the LightWiki reference section, and adding some of my own LScripts to it.
http://www.lightwiki.com/Category:LScript

I was looking for some documentation on how to let the user specify a folder, and found it by chance in a page listing all the changes to the LW 9.5 SDK.
http://www.lightwiki.com/Getfolder
http://www.lightwiki.com/Ctlfoldername

I’ll keep adding info to the wiki so anyone else that come across the same issues I have can find some tips and tricks there.

Upcoming plugin Weighter 2

Written by MentalFish. Posted in Computer Graphics

Alexandre Labedade has an upcoming LScript plugin called Weighter 2 and what it does is to transfer vertex maps from one object to another, weight and colour maps, UVs and morphs. Similar to Gator in Softimage.

Here is a preview of its weight transfer aspect.
